Come and Join Us at SMVC
Posted: 12th February 2026
Why would you:
- Singing is good for you – there is a mountain of evidence that singing in a group promotes well-being – physical benefits – heart and lungs; mental health benefits – generates hormones (dopamine in particular) that make you feel good; social benefits from being part of a choir
If you can sing in the shower or give it a go on Karaoke nights then you will be able to sing in a choir and learn the songs.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ MUSIC
If you join us you will
ENJOY
- The camaraderie
- Relaxed fun and humour
- The ‘Buzz’ from performing well
- Being in a ‘world famous’ choir – well we were described as such once
- Meet new people
- Travel – locally and further afield
- Choir trips
- Even a social pint after rehearsals if you enjoy a beer
- Be fully supported with range of learning tools – on computers or using recordings in various formats – even practice in the car!
We Sing a Wide Range of Stuff
- Serious
- Classical
- Comical
- Show tunes and film theme songs and ‘Anthems’
- Sea shanties (Fishermen’s Friends eat your hearts out!)

You will not be embarrassed or pressurised, asked to sing on your own (unless you want to)
